What I Leave Behind
In my final days, I am brought low by the weight my kin has placed on my shoulders. I see now that my wish for unity within our family was foolish. Out of all my 7 children, none came to my deathbed — so I declare that none shall enjoy the fruits of my labor!
I wish for my most prized possession, a piece of artwork, to be passed down to my children. However, the piece will be torn apart and divided by 8. The pieces will be shared among my 7 children, thus rendering the priceless artwork useless.
Finally, I wish to be buried with the final piece, atop the hill near the low end of the fort. Let the earth embrace me the way my children never would.
